Set in one of the finest parts of England in rural East Sussex, close to the sea, The Quilt Retreat is located in a fabulously converted former dairy barn and part of a property known as Bunts Barn. The property has several acres of farmland, orchard, woodlands, equestrian ménage, lovely gardens & 2 barn conversions.

The Building

Ensuite bedrooms
There are cute & cosy bedrooms with en-suites. We provide luxury beds to give you the best chance of a good night’s sleep ahead of your glorious days of quilting.

Dining & Relaxation
For dining and relaxation there is a lovely spacious, fully equipped room with vaulted ceiling.

The Workshop is built for Quilters by Quilters.
The setting is superb with beautiful views all around. There is a deck to enjoy during favourable weather.
On the practical side, the workshop has the best available lighting systems, perfect for detailed work or you can switch to mood lighting when it suits you. The desks, chairs and equipment are all there to make your stay easy and comfortable.

The Land

Surrounding farmland
You are surrounded by farmland, with stunning views across the hills and valleys over Wallers Haven.
A short drive takes you to local beaches. Farming in the area includes various breeds of sheep, a herd of Sussex beef cattle raised to organic standards, chickens, ducks, geese and more.
The river and marshland at Wallers Haven provides a wonderful sanctuary for wildlife.
Bird watchers delight to have spotted at least 62 species of birds in the area.
There are Chaffinches, Mixed Tits, Warblers, Goldcrest, Kingfisher, & Marsh Harrier. Kestrel, Sparrow hawk, Buzzard, Peregrine and Hobby. Starlings, Cormorants, Buzzards, Spotted Flycatchers, Swans, Canadian geese. Swallows return to breed after wintering in warmer climes, their antics learning to fly are almost magical.

Directions

On Satnav, the postcode ​ is shared with several properties, you​ ​may​ arrive at Dandy Brush Saddlery, we are approx 150 yards down the hill on the right hand side (Look for the White Gate).​
From the garage in the centre of Hooe village proceed ​ on the B2095​ in a southerly direction towards​ the coast /​ Eastbourne. After about 0.5 of a mile, Bunts Barn​ & The Quilt Retreat​ will be found on the right. 
Alternatively, from the Lamb Inn on the A259 between Bexhill and Eastbourne, take the B2095 towards Hooe for about 1.6 miles​ – Bunts Barn​ & The Quilt Retreat​ will be on the left.
​Outside the barns our signage is marked in both directions as Bunts Barn.
 

The Barn

Bunts Barn enjoys a rural but not isolated location amidst open countryside with outstanding views across Wallers Haven and the open landscape of Pevensey Levels to the South Downs. Bunts Barn is a fine period barn conversion, the elevations being typical of the area with brick and flint with some timber cladding beneath a tiled roof. Bunts Barn Retreat is a former dairy and stables converted in 2016 into a charming Oak clad rustic refuge, ideally suited to a variety of retreat activities.

Close by

The village of Hooe with local garage and public house is about 0.5 miles, with the parish church close by.
The sea at Cooden Beach / Norman’s Bay is some 3.5 miles.
Ninfield with local amenities is about 2 miles.
The historic town of Battle is 5 miles and has a good range of shops and a mainline station (Waterloo /Charing Cross). Battle to Central London takes between 80 and 90 minutes.
The coastal towns of Bexhill on Sea and Eastbourne are about 5 and 8 miles respectively. Polegate station (London Victoria) is some 9.5 miles.
